Study Island is a powerful, yet simple to use, learning and teaching tool provided in a completely web-based format. In addition to featuring specialized preparation programs for state standardized tests, Study Island offers free tools to all users.

Study Island currently offers preparation programs for standatdized tests in Texas (TAKS), Oklahoma (OCCT), Ohio (Proficiency Test), and Illinois (ISAT).

5. Am I limited to studying the content available in your database?
No, one of the greatest benefits of Study Island is the ability to enter your own school material by creating your own Question Groups. A guide to creating Question Groups can be accessed through the help page.

6. How can I find a question group that relates to what I'm studying?
Study Island's allows you to search the content database by several characteristics; keyword search, search by grade level, by username of the person that created the group (owner), by subject, by most popular groups, and by material you have recently used.

7. What state curriculums are currently included?
A preparatory program for the Ohio Proficiency Tests is currently available for a yearly licence fee of $49.99 per student. The program is available to schools at a significant discount. Click "State Tests" on the navigation bar for more information.

8. Who can access Study Island?
Anyone with an Internet connected computer. Study Island's tools and academic material are available free to all users. Only the Ohio Proficiency Test portion of Study Island requires a fee.

9. How can I view my report card/progress?
A summary report card for each user is available by clicking the Report Card hyperlink on the left hand menu. This shows a summary of all recorded activities done by the user logged in.

10. What are the benefits of Study Island's completely Web-based format?
A Web-based product is ideal for several reasons: There is no software to buy or install. Since everything is conducted online, you can use different computers and still have just one report card. All you need is your username and password. A Question Group that you make at home will be instantly available to any Study Island user, anywhere.

11. How can I erase my report card?
Users of the free area of Study Island (rather that the state test prep programs) are able to enter their own school material into the system. Question groups and lessons created by one user are available to all Study Island users. This shared database enables users to study using material they have entered themselves or material entered by another user. Click here for detailed instructions for entering content.

12. Can teachers and administrators benefit from Study Island?
Absolutely. Teachers and administrators can be set up to have administrative control over a set of users. With this access, administrators can view real-time reports that show student performance and participation. The reporting feature details student progress by subject and state curriculum guidelines. Therefore, deficiencies can be recognized and remedied as early as possible.

13. What if I find an error in one of the question groups?
Study Island is a community of teachers and students who create, share, and study school material. Because the majority of the Question Groups are created by Study Island users, Study Island cannot verify the correctness of each question. If you find a mistake in a Question Group, you should send a message to the Question Group owner. A message can be sent to the owner by clicking the "Details" link next to the Question Group listing. Note that Study Island does review all Question Groups for the purpose of indexing them and to verify that the content is appropriate for children.

14. What types of browsers are compatible with Study Island?
Browsers that will successfully support Study Island are:

*Please note, the game modes will not work on Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher on a Macintosh.

15. Will I see the same question repeated during a test?
While there are a limited number of questions included in each question group, the questions are constantly changing. In the multiple-choice questions, answers are continuously changing place between the a, b, c, d, e answer slot. Additionally, the numbers used in the math questions are pulled from variables, thus changing the question each time it's viewed. Therefore, there are millions of permutations of the questions, which ensures people are learning the lessons included, not just memorizing the questions.

16. What if I forgot my password or username?
If you only forgot your password, enter your username and click the "Forgot Password?" button on the left of the front page. This will prompt you the password hint that you established when initially creating your username and password. If this doesn't help you remember your password, you can either email info@studyisland.com to request a new password or create a new username and password. Please note, in creating a new username and password, your report card and statistics will not reflect previous usage.
